Hazard ID and Risk Assessment

Course Information

New Zealand has a high rate of workplace illnesses, injuries and fatalities. We’re focused on teaching and supporting excellent workplace health and safety standards and attitudes.

This course will provide you with the ability to identify risks in the school environment and prepare them to enter the workforce with a great understanding of health and safety, which can be adapted into all New Zealand businesses.

All Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU/Employee) should encourage all staff to report any hazards and health and safety problems immediately. Then you can manage the hazards and problems before an incident occurs. By drawing on the experience, knowledge and ideas of your workers, your workplace is more likely to identify all hazards and choose control measures that are effective.

A PCBU must also make sure that the person carrying out any step in the risk management process has the necessary training, skills and experience to do so.

Managing risks at your workplace doesn’t need to be a burden, complex or costly to implement or document. But you must take positive action to make a situation safer, and apply the most appropriate and reasonable control measure.

The Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment course will teach you the skills to:

  • Identify hazards that may harm workers, the work environment, and organisations.
  • Explain the requirements for hazard control in accordance to the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
  • Describe hazard control methods.
  • Identify hazards and apply risk assessment procedures.
